“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.”
― Ralph Ellison, Invisible Man
Hi everyone, does the above quote sounds something to you? Alternatively, ask yourself the following questions:
“ Who am I? “
“What is my purpose to live? “
“Are you live to exist or exist to live?”
If you are able to answer these questions, congrats to you. You unlocked the life skills that have been waiting for you, that is Self-Awareness.
What is Self-Awareness?
Let’s break it down together:
Yourself in short. Basically, that is you.
Paying attention to something, aware of it.
We combine these words together, self-awareness. Meaning of it will be paying attention and aware of ourselves.
Now, let’s take a deep breath and think about yourself. How do you become the person who you are today? Upbringing from family, your company of your friends and loved ones, news and social media.
As we saw from this list, do we have enough time for ourselves? Feel like there is someone leading your life? What are your aspirations? How do you actually want to achieve in your life? What is the dream career you actually wanted?
I wouldn’t say the influences I have listed are right or wrong, with the right people or information, are definitely shaping you a great person. However, with the wrong people or information, they can give you a living hell hole of it.
So where is the Self-Awareness?
Self-awareness consists of every part within you. Your personality, thoughts, motivations, beliefs and emotions. The first step of creating your life story and control your life is always self-awareness. We often neglect self-awareness as we do not pay attention to ourselves.
How Self-Awareness impact you?
Self-awareness makes you a better person. You aware of your feelings and emotions, you will also put yourself in other people’s shoes to understand their situations and problems. People will be open with you and you have their respect.
Well, great things don’t come cheap, sadly. Self-awareness takes effort to maintain and achieve it. It requires to spend time focusing on yourself and possibly dig out some of darkest you. My maintaining of self-awareness would be writing a reflective journal and read books.
I know it sounds tough, but I promise you that once you do it, it will make a breakthrough in your life. A small step is better than not doing at all.
What is the first step for it?
In my opinion, I would recommend finding a quiet space for yourself for a “me” time. Or you can write your own thoughts on it and paste it somewhere you every day can see it. If you want to get things faster, getting a life coach would be great! They will lead you to find yourself the faster way.
Self-Awareness, a simple word yet deep layers behind in it. Humans may not be able to understand themselves fully, however, the journey to explore within ourselves is fascinating and worthwhile for it. Believe in yourself in this journey. If not, believe in me for believing you to be able to do it. Leave a comment below and share for it!
